Royal Ascot Ladies Day 2010
Breast Cancer Campaign Ribbon Hat.
Jenny works for Cancer Research York and wanted a hat that would help raise awareness for cancer research. We decided to go with the Breast Cancer campaign pink ribbon as we both have family members that have been effected by breast cancer. I made the ribbon with sinamay and added the new breast cancer jigsaw piece and text with swarovski crystals. The hat was really popular on the day and strangers who had been effected by breast cancer themselves personally complimented Jenny.
Ann-marie wanted a floral piece in black and citrus green with a black veil so I created this tumbling flower hat for her.
I based my hat on the victorian fashion for wearing real birds on hats. Of course I didn't use real birds , I hand made and carved the birds from scratch and decorated with feathers. Each bird has a set of swarovski crystal eyes. I couldn't resist making two magpies for luck.
Royal Ascot for me was like hat heaven. I spent most of the day hat spotting and now have a very comprehensive collection of photographs!
